I think this book relates to black girls who sre getting teased and teated worng. It makes you think about other ppl who are being teased or bullyed. Char was a bully and a evil person. Jonh-jonh was making fun of Mealka and that was just being mean.Caleb was so nice by writing mealka a very nice peom.

in this book "THE SKIN I'M IN"S a very nice sad intresting book because not everybody has to be perfect atucally no body is perfect and the only reason i think nobody is perfect because you wasn't born perfect or anything and neither was maleeka she was trying to fit in and charlese treats her like she has to miss all that (charlese) slave and i also remembered that charlese isn't maleeka mother and nobody was't helping maleeka understand things and also that there was only two(2) people that wanted to help her because they understand what she was going through and she didn't care about that she just cared about fiting in 'fiting in with the wrong people choose better frieds because charlese isn't even maleeka's friend and those two(2) people that wnted to help her with some stuff and those names is caleb and miss saunders and the most thing i like is when at the end she spread her wings and let everybody no i do not care what you say about my skin because black is beautiful but something inside of maleeka that hurts her all the tme and then she remembers that person being there is her father but i'm happy that maleeka spread her wings and dosen't have to care about charlese bulliny her.Thank You EveryBody For Listening

This book is very interesting, but before i tell you how I feel about it I want to explain the cruelty and disturbances that children get because of the way they look, dress, or where they come from. I think it's discusting how kids and even adults can judge other people by the way they look. I mean seriously, did they chose to look like that? did YOU chose to look like you do now? NO. There are flaws on everybody; even you. When other people tease and bully other kids it's usually because of how they look, I disagree in that action and I'd do anything in the world to make racist people stop. Just because the color of their skin, or the nationality they are...they shouldn't be treated any differently. It bothers me, and I don't even get teased. I just think its so unfair and horrible to those poor kids. Everyone that treats the kids like that, should be ashamed. Back to the book! It was such an inspiring novel, It's perfect for children and adults...anyone can connect with it, in someway! Maleeka is a wonderful girl, very wise, strong, and intelligent. The other people that teased her because of the way she looked was heart-breaking. Miss Saunders was a good person that came into her life...it's always a good thing to know someone that gets the same treatment as you do, even though everyone should be treated the same way no matter what they look like! (If someone treats you differently it should only depend on the way they act mean or nice) Maleeka would inspire other young children to take themselves as who they are, and whats in their heart..not anything else! Believe in yourself and what you can accomplish. I loved the book and i think hanging around with Char, Raina, and Raise was a bad choice, Desda was a true friend. John-John was rude and obnoxious. I just can't stand most racist and ignorant people nowa-days. What I'm trying to come across here is that this book, "The Skin I'm in" leads out a message: Everything that counts in a person is what's on the inside, not the outside.

I think you can really relate to this story because many people are dark and get many names being called at you. Also, many people get peer pressure because you want to be popular.

This book to me Im going to say it like it is it was poppin`. But I will put it in a more itelligent way. This book basically showed what life really is and I think Malleka went through alot of trials and tribulations but at the same time Maleeka was the same girl that you see every day.

I ready this book when I was about 14 years old. I, Like Maleeka, am a dark-skinned African American. When I was younger, I ws often teased about the complexion of my skin. I always wished I were a little brighter. After reading this book, I learned to love myself, and accept me for who I am. I also came to the conclusion that my family, and my real friends would love me no matter what. Maleeka went through many struggles, but she overcame them! This book is awsome for anyone around middle-school age, because that's when peer pressure kicks in!

Wow. all i can say about this book is wow. its so powerful. i feel like maleeka in a way because i have never been self confident. Sharon Flake really helped me by writing this book. Maleeka is so strong. Shes a great kid, she doesnt need stupid Char, Raina, Or Raise. I was in a similar situation a little while ago. I wanted to hang with this girl so bad, and i would hang out with her, but randomly she would say she hated me. I should have been hanging out with other people. like Maleeka should have hung out with people like Desda. this book really helped me do the same thing.

I would say this book had to be ten out of ten because it had emotions that you felt when Maleeka felt it. If i had the time i would read my favourite books again and again and this would be one of them.

The skin I'm in is a very good book. 1 girl read the book and she realized that she was being mean to 1 of the girls in the class because of her skin color and she went and appologized. I think that The skin I'm in teaches people a leason because i have learned that you cant judge a person by the way they look you have to get to knoe the person you know like thre saying, Dont judge a book by its cover. yeah just like that so to anyone out there who have not read the book i recomend the book to to all out there because it is very inpiring and it really does change the way you are to other people if you amke fun of them just because of the way they look or the way they act.

I LOVED this book! when i picked it up at my skool library it was just an excuse to get something to "read" but when i actually started to READ it, i really liked it. Maleeka is a very strong person, if someone were to make fun of me constantly over nothing, i would get really mad, even sad. Tho i am a sensitive person. I really HATED Ms. Saunders! She's like this leech that never lets go! And i really hate Char, i want to slap her! And it really was BS that Maleeka got suspended! I always thought the reason John-John always picked on her was cuz he liked her! Any way this book is really down to the point with teenage problems. It's not fake at all! And EVERYONE can realate to it. And when people of all kind can realate to a book, it's not just a good book, it's good writing, but then again sharon Flake IS one of my favorite authors.

The Skin I'm In was a book that was without a doubt the most interesting book i've ever read. Although I must admit that I did get a little mad at Maleeka because I myself am a beautiful, dark skinned, young, aspiring writer, and it just bugged me the way Maleeka constantly took the teases and taunts. Black is the best thing to be and it's a shame that she had to get suspended and blamed for something she didnt do to realize that. But like I said, this book the greatest book I've read in a while and if Sharon Flake does not come up with a sequel or something I , and a whole lot of her other fans, will be greatly disapointed.

But to my surprize it was more different than sad. I mean yeah, when Char kept on thearting Maleeka to light the money on fire was pretty sad but just plain on mean and wrong to do her like that! Also when daphne wanted to fight Maleeka because some body said that she was locking lips with her 'man" wrom, was wrong because char was the one locking lips with that boy!Oh, Inever get why maleeka didn't tell her mom about the boys who tired to rape her! Well, my teacher wants me to tell you that My teacher is the one who interduced me to this book!(Cherese chenell Jones!)

The Skin I'm In. I Really did love this book. It not only inspired me but it touched me in so many ways. I have never felt this way as i read any other book. Maleeka is a very strong character, although she was running with the wrong crew and trying to fit in by hanging with Charlese, she finally spread her wings at the end of the book by telling her that Black is the skin she's in. I personally think that Maleeka was going hard on herself. She was changing her appearance because of what everyone else thought or said about her. She obviously didnt notice how Beautiful she was! But Ms. Saunders & Caleb were the ones who really saw not only her inner-beauty but her outer beauty . Not only that but John-John was a very rude & ignorant character. should he judge Maleeka by the color of her skin? Just think how would you feel if you were in Maleeka's place? Would you have went along with Charlese & get into more trouble, just so you can stop being teased? Would you forgive Caleb for being annoyed by the chant of "Maleeka, Maleeka, We sure wana keep her, but she oh so Black, we just can't see her" & wanting not to be teased because it just so happened that he was her girl friend? Would you go back out with him after her made you the romantic poem ? Think about it Maleeka went through alot, especially when she decided it was her time to change her attitude by letting her fire shine. In the begining Maleeka started as a confused little girl who just wanted to fit in but it all changed when Ms. Saunder's came ( the new teacher who has blotches on her faces). Ms. Saunders showed Maleeka that she's not the only one who's got it bad & that just because everyone claims that you are ugly doesnt mean its true. So as she gets into the middle of the story Maleeka notices that she's not considered as beautiful so she tries look her best so she borrows cloths from Charlese since She has teh best clothes & mother sews regs together into a (not so pretty) outfit.Charlese soon gets Maleeka to hang with her & the more she hangs with Char the more she gets herself into trouble. Untill she decides its time for a change by getting a haircut & wearing earings. Then the teasing becomes intense especially since not many considered her new hair-do as a success until the end Caleb gave her the poem "Would you be my Almond Joy" and told him he really loved her & the day he broke up with her was the day he ruined his life so she soon learned to get her facts straight. She went up to John-John & Charlese & told them straight up if they didnt like the color of her skin than Oh Well because thats the skin she's in.

I think that maleeka is a very strong person because when someone is picking on her she wont mind what thier saying and go on but I have to say that she is not very stong when it comes to her being with Char because Char is a very bad person and every thing that Char does Maleeka has somthing to do with it and after school is over Maleeka will go home and write in her jounal and the person that she write to is her best friend and she is makebelive her name is Akeelmaand everything that Maleeka do wrong Akeela does write and that is my fact about the story.

I Love it! This book is so awesome, it made me look out to all those people who have their heads down all the time, ashamed of what they have. It makes me notice how immature and inconsiderate we can be, especially at our age. The first thing that caught my eye was the cover of the book, something about it just said "you have to read this". So i opened the cover flipped to the first page, and what do you know... I'm now on the second page walking towards the check out center to go back to class and finish reading my book. At first i didn't quite get the book because of John-John making fun of Maleeka for being black, since he was black. I didn't choose to read this book because i've been having trouble, but before this book i read "Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry" and it got me into reading these types of book. Kids going through verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse or any other bullying. It makes me look at how cruel we can be and that there is NO reason to act like that. NO reason, yeah we can all be a little nasty some times with the way we talk to eachother but watch what you say. Especially now in days it's on this new handy MSN Messanger... as much as i love chatting to my friends online, i will say some people abuse it. You don't know if maybe that person takes that assult VERY seriously. We have some really sensitive people in this world and that's natural, along with people who just don't care what others say. Like me for an instance, if any one says stuff about me it just goes through on ear and out the other, if someone has time to call you names and get all up in your face about stupid things i just start laughing cause that's when you know that that kid or adult needs to get a life! And if you think about it... that's sorta weird how they have allll this bad stuff against you, but they were thinking about you that WHOOOLLLEEEE time analysing you head to toe... so obviously that shows that no matter what they say, they must think something nice about you. Well I enjoyed this book, i hope all the other readers have too... xoxoxo Kas

I think "The Skin I'm In is a rather interesting book because it really relates to real life situations. Maleeka was a very nice person but people judged her by the color of her skin. Instead of her trying so hard to fit in with the crowd she sould have just been herself and she could have been a role model for other dark-skined kids.

I think that this book is a very touching book that people like Maleeka can express, too. When I first read this book starting from the beginning, I thought it was very boring. But when someone read it out to all of us. I felt like I wanted to read more because it explained courage, truth, honesty, bravery and many more. I felt like I was Maleeka when I read this book. Anytime I would read this book I wouldn't want to put it down because it was like I was learning plenty from Maleeka. It felt like Maleeka was the one teaching me what I should do about my problems and what I shouldn't do because I wouldn't want to make anything or anyone feel bad about what they've done. I rate this book a ten because I know it deserve a ten. This book called "The Skin I'm In", is a very nice, outrageous and extraordinary book that I think we should all read because we would learn a lot about Maleeka.

I read this book a few years ago, I don't exactly recall how many, but I loved it. I've read it at least half a dozen times since then, and I still love it. I think that the reason John-John teases Maleeka is not because she is tall (though jealousy could certainly be part of it) but he has been teasing her about her skin color from age seven on because he is insecure. He, too, is very dark, and many people, both black and white, seem to feel it is 'better' to have a light complexion. It goes all the way back to the days of slavery when the 'lighter' slaves were permitted to work in the house, whereas those with darker skin like Maleeka and John-John were forced to work outside. People who teaste usually do so not because there is something wrong with the person being made fun of, but because they worry that they have something wrong with themselves. I found 'The Skin I'm In' a small store in the linens aisle, totally alone and obviously not meant to be left there. I am so glad that I bought it, and plan to read it to my Godson and his two sisters when they get a little bit older. I hope that they, too, will enjoy it (and learn from Maleeka's experiences) and continued to read and cherish the book as I do.

I think that it was a good book to read since it showed the pressure a dark skinned teen might go through. Maleeka is a character with real low self-esteem and Sharon G. Flake shows it well through Maleeka's feelings. The only problem is that the story was not challenging enough to read and that not many events occured through out the story. The Skin I'm In did help me realize that it doesn't matter what others think of you but that what you think of yourself does.I did enjoy reading the slang because I felt that I was reading a book from a person I can relate to and didn't have to struggle trying to understand difficult words.I also realized that some times girls are mean to other people because they are insecure and feel that other people are better than them. Self-esteem is a real important matter because it affects you in everything you do, and that was something else I learned from reading this novel.

I think that this is a wonderful, most exciting book because it's based on the fact that the girl whose name is Maleeka Madison is going through a diffcult situation. Her father passed away when she was little, her mother is a single parent, and it's hard for her because she is teased everyday at school because of how black she is which doesn't matter. And now she 's not alone because the new english teacher Ms. Sanders has the same situation, she doesn't like the way her face is made. But you can't around the wrong crowd to be notice. That's why you must be happy with the way you are.

i really liked this book because it was interesting showing how some black girls face life and how some of them have low selfesteem. because they are black. I dont think black girls should feel inferior, they should be proud of their skin, of how God made us, because we are all baeutifully and wonderfully made in Gods eyes.

I loved this book. It's very cleveryly written and now I feel like I know Maleeka personally. I found myself getting involved with her life and it just made me think about how different people deal with situations. Does anyone know any other books by Sharon G Flake or books of a similar concept/plot?

I think this is a very good book. The way at first Maleeka is letting people tease her and feeling bad about herself, then at the end she feels proud. I think everybody should be able to feel good about themselves. I think Maleeka is a good, strong and brave character. I think this book is for older girls and I hope everyone who reads this book enjoys it as much as I did!!!

I personally think that that this book is one of the ebst books I have ever read. It has a lot to deal with with especially with dark african american girls. My mother read the book too and she said that it was a sensitive subject for her to discuss because she was often teased when she was younger for her very dark skin color. I am personally a tannish kind of african american girl but I can relate to Maleeka for the fact that she is being teased constantly about her apperance. I am obese and i often get teased.

I THINK THIS IS A EXCELLENT BOOK. IT TEACHES YOU TO BE PROUD OF YOUR SJIN AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHIN YOU WANT IF YOU JUST BELIVE. IT TAUGHT ME THAT I AM BLACK AND BEAUTIFUL. I THINK IF IT WASN'T FOR MISS. SAUNDERS HELP SHE, MALEEK WILL PROBOLY BE IN THE SAME PROBLEM SHE WAS IN BEFORE. LETTING PEOPLE PUT HER DOWN. I ALSO THINK THAT WHEN SHE WAS WRITING THE JURNAL FOR AKEELMA, I THINK ME=ALEEK RELIZED THAT SHE WRITING ABOUT HER SELF IN A WAY TO RELIZE THAT WHAT SHE SEES IN THE MIRROR IS MORE INPORTANT TO HER WHAT SHE SEES THEN WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SEE IN HER. I ALSO THINK THAT BECAUSE OF ALL THE CRITIZEN ABOUT HER CLOTHES, SKIN, AND HAIR. I THINK THAT MADE HER BETTER.MALEEK IS BLACK, BEAUTIFUL, SMART( A MATH WHIZ), TALENTED, AND BEAUTIFUL. AND THIER IS NOTHING THAT IS STOPPINHG HER. SHE IS FREE TO GO AND TO TINK ABOUT HERSELF

I think this book was wonderful! It showed people what it feels to be bullyied around, seeing from another perspective. It had the things that do happen in middle school for girls or boys of another color or race. I think that it also taught people that being of another color or race is nothing to make fun of or laugh about. This is one of those books that sort of puts the reader in the picture. Its something that relates to all people in their everyday lives.

I think this book is an excellent way to help children build their self esteem .I also think that Sharon Flake thinks about her characters by looking at what kids go through in life today . Maleeka or Charlese could be anyoneof my classmate. These characters can be walking around in my school or sitting next to me in class. It nice to rad about something that touches on real issues that we go through . I love this book.

This is an awesome book that you can really take it to heart. I've experienced such mean behaviors from classmates and it really. I understand how she feels and why she does the things she does. I am in grade 7 and yes, it feels like the worst situation to be in is alone and friendless. It makes you wish you'd just disappear.

I think the book The Skin Im In is a very good book. i had to read it for a book report at school. This book is kindof like a sterotypical book of african americans. Even though Maleeka and John John are the same race he still picks on her for being black. Thats how it goes these days. Black students belive that they can pick on others for being blacker then them but whites cant say anything. I love this book and i would reccomend it for others to read. I especially love the lesson Miss Saunders teaches Maleeka!. The moral of the story is great.

I think this story will make people realize that it doesn't matter what color you are and that you are special in your own way. I kinda know how Maleeka feels when people tease her and laugh at her whenever she walks down the hall way or any where she goes. Maleeka is a smart and very talented girl who always got teased and she never wanted to bully anyone. I really think people should have left her alone. Mrs. Saunders really had Maleeka's back, and I just hope Maleeka had a chance to thank her. I LOVE YOU MALEEKA!!!!!!!!!!!! MYAH

The book was really good. I recommend that everyone read because it'll truely change your veiw of people. I could really relate to Maleeka because she had haters and everyone does, but she overcame those situations and realized that she was beautiful. It may have not seemed that way to everyone else but beauty is really inside-out. You have to have a beautiful heart to truely be all that.

My mother always told me that I was beautiful but i just thought she said it because she was my mother. Now i see that don't worry about what others think. Even though i used to do that many males wanted to talk to me so i neva knew why people hated me because of my skin color.

And I had dictating "friends" who made me miserable but protected me. I also found my outlet in writing. I finally learned to love the skin I'm In just like Maleeka. I felt like I was reading my own biography. Thank u so much for writing such a realistic story!!!
