I think this is the best one in the series. Artemis actually seemed human ! For some reason my favorite scene is that part where Holly's finger gets cut off and then she starts to die because her power is wasted on Artemis... It's been a long time since I read it!! It was a very different setting and really suspenseful. The characters are really funny particularly Foaly and -who's the dude- Root? They have very funny scenes together, I'm not sure if it's this book but that thing with the dart finger and the plastic butt was really funny!! I should read it again!!

Amazing, truly amazing. Before this series I had yet to find a book or series that I liked, but this book beats them all by a very long shot. This series blows me away from each charecter from Foaly to Juliet. I have to say this book is going to be a all time favorite.

This book is incredibly brilliant. I find it difficult to really enjoy a book, as I find it diffucult to believe many fantasy books, and yet the Artemis Fowl series are my favourite. Whether it be Eoin's captivating writing style, or the enigma that is Artemis, I just can't stop reading the books. I have read each one at least 4 times cover to cover. It's just that darn good.

Ok, this is by far one of the most astoundingly creative books i have read. becuase most books about other spices depict them so primitivly and base EVERYTHING on magic. this howerver does it on technology. The characters are described well especially artimes and holly but sometimes i whish that he would become a bad guy again it ads more diversety in knowing that your protagonist is a theif.

I think that the style of writing is not very good at all compared to the other three books in the series. I think that more effort could and should have been put into the book. I found it boring because there wasn't much action. The third one is the best read in the series.

Alright im sorry but i just read the comment from 'NO Comment' and really had to say that 1.This is a book meant to entertain and be enjoyed and is not to be overly analysed 2.Eoin Colfer is only human and so not infallable so i think he can make a few slip ups from time to time and im sure that no chefs will take offence to the julliene problem and to be honest your just being picky and trying to find problems with a perfectly good book. Why is it that no matter how good a job people do on something others can still find some insignificant point to trump up for no reason other than to make themselves feel big....
Paul Martin, boy, age 13, from No Comment, United States, on 28th September 2005. Rating: 7/10
The entire series is quite interesitng. The child criminal mastermind plot basis has merit, but the idea of attempting to make a 12-14 year old (progressing through the books) supposedly become so refined, so perfectly intelligent that he can devise planes so perfectly. On the other hand, it is arguably one of the most creative stories I've ever read. The LEP Recon, San D'Klass, and all the other various puns continue to consistently amuse me. The plot keeps one excited (with the exception of the occasional technical description), especially in terms of character depth. Many writers are beautifully descriptive, with flowing language and twisting plots, but they fail to capture the characters. Root, Foaly, Artemis, and Holly really stand out, although I wish Eoin had expanded a bit more on Artemis's emotional side, as I think it would have really added a lot to the story. The only other main point I find frustrating is this: The attempted "Sophistication" The Madame Ko scene in the third book with Julliet sounds like something out of a B- Kung Fu movie. A new, slightly random martial art? A test, which although exotic, has no basis for standard evaluation. Another example: The (if I remember correctly) "Pan-seared swordfish, on a bed of julliened vegetables. Julliened is, in essence, lightly grilled, usually certain vegetables. This supposed meal is apparently supposed to reflect sophistication. Another: The vocabulary: I pride myself on having a capable vocabulary, but this goes a bit over the top. Artemis using long, inneficient sentences, (apparently as a device to show his intelligence) to reflect very simple things. Still, a 7/10. Room for improvement, but still a great book. Cheers, ~ Aristos

What can I say? Eoin Colfer has once more excelled himself and I feel that the characters have been taken to another, even better level than in the previous book. To start off, the A.F. books are the best thing since LoTR, which is the best off all books. They are one of my favorites, and I can't keep 'em down. Some people say he is the new Harry Potter. Wrong! He's not some crazy wizard kid who learns of his powers, he's a supersmart criminal who kidnaps fairies then makes friends with them. But if you're reading this, you know this fact to be true. Although Artemis is smart and evil (2 of the things I look for in a guy) I find myself not having a crush on him. I am madly in love with Foaly, who, though,is not evil, is very very smart. And witty. And sarcastic. Like me.

Wow! Artemis has feelings... I enjoyed this book more than the first but less than the third and fourth. Why? Personal preference, I guess... I love Artemis' cold, calculating, super-smart personality. I especially enjoy watching him solve problems in the blink of an eye. Some people might find the constant stream of technological terms and descriptions a bit tedious, but I just ate them up. I recommend it to fans of action, sci-fi, suspense, fantasy, etc... Enjoy!

If you have read the artemis fowl files you will find his report card, and it would be amazing to actually find a boy that intelligent. But to tell you the truth the best is the quotes from Dr. Poe. He is very obsessed with finding a weakness in Artemis and finding a way to start acting well.... normal.

When he messed with the minds of Pex and Chips (which isn't hard) my entire family was cracking up! I just love Butler's charcter. How he's alwaysarmed and ready, skilled with martial arts and all forms of weapons. How he can kill people a hundred times over again without the use of his weapons.

Artemis Fowl is by far the most creative book series since Lord of the Rings. Just like Tolkien, Colfer has created an original world of mystical creatures, but unlike that trilogy, he made their world hi-tech and futuristic, and you can relate them to human life. The centaur is sarcastic, the fairy is spunky and the dwarf blows holes in his pants (that makes it sound way more immature than it actually is). The human characters are just as imaginative as well. Their is the evil hero, the butt-kicking blond, etc. As for the theme, it's the perfect blend of everything. There are humorous places in the books, as well as tragic and angsty and plenty of action. It is a perfect read for anyone with decent reading skills. I advise everyone to check it out.

First of all, I don't know why all the people replying are girls. Artemis Fowl series is the best action / fantasy novel series I have ever read (I happen to be a boy). Anyway... The Arctic Incident is very entertaining, although I can't find a code in The Arctic Incident or The Eternity Code. Are there possibly different versions made? Also, what nationality is Eoin Colfer? Artemis is Irish, so it can be assumed that Colfer comes from Ireland. Is this true? Anyway, the Arctic Incident is pretty cool. I think Artemis's battle strategy at the end was too coincedental, and the Mafiya could have played a bigger role. All in all, the book truly deserves a 9.

This is definatley the best book I have read! I have laughed, been on the edge of my seat, contemplaited (thought about) Artemis's schemes and once, I stayed up until 1:00 AM on a school night reading it! Oh, and I finally figured it out after the 5th time I read it. I know how Artemis escaped the mind wipe (sorta)! Remember when it said at the end of the book in Artemis's diary, that MIRRORED contact lenses fell out of his, Butler's and Juliette's eyes? Well, he escaped the mesmer and acted it all out! But seriously, I've read these books 11 times and I cracked the codes. It's sooooo awesome that Artemis can think of these engenious plans to outsmart the fairys! It's beyond amazing! I'm missing hair because every time I do reasearch on The Opal Deception (The fouth book is The Opal Deception, NOT The Opal Incident)I pull out my hair! Oh, well! I'll have to wait. I loved reading more about Captain Holly Short and her lethal team at HEAVEN city not the heated and 'witty' conversations she had with Artemise fowl! Well done Eoin!!!! This is one of the best book I've ever read. I had so much fun reading it. I coudn't put it down. My favorite character is Domovoi Butler. Butler tells Artemis his first name in the 3rd book: The Eternity Code when Butler gets shot and almost dies. But Artemis freezed him and gets Holly to help by using her magic to heal him. It works but butler ages 15 years. So artemis has to stop going on crazy adventures. But Juliet protects him on hi last mission. It's a really good book.

I have an advanced case of Artemis Fowl obsession... in other words I love the books!!! I am going completely mad waiting for the 4th book- Opal Deception- and the movie. Although I am scared that the movie will not be up to standard. I have read all the books (duh) at least ten times each (not so duh) and have deciphered all the codes (down the bottom of each page). The code, Gnommish, in the first book is easy to learn and I am now fluent in reading and writing it. The code in the Arctic Incident, Centaurian, is really really easy to read once you get how it works and I deciphered the whole book in about 5 minutes. Each symbol looks a little like a letter ( eg there is a triangle which is 'a', as in A without legs). The code in Eternity Code is interesting and the most annoying for me because it is hard to get fluent in reading it and I only know a few letters for writing it. I hope there is a code in Opal Deception and I can't wait to solve one. If there is. There better be!!!!!!!!! I notice from reading message boards that people are having trouble cracking the code in the 3rd book. At the start of the book there is a thing which says something along the lines of 'dedicated to the (???) family, inlaws and outlaws'. And below it it is written in the code. And you just crack it from that. Just in case there was someone reading this who wanted to crack the code but couldn't. Anyway the Artemis Fowl books are REALLY REALLY GOOD and far out if I actually did pull out a chunk of hair every time I felt like it for waiting for the 4th book (if you get that...!) I'd have been bald long ago... anyone who hasn't read these books... just... must.

Great book, fairly easy plot to follow, I think it's hilarious how Artemis is always like: I'm smarter than you! Even though he never really says that, he implies it. Like when he goes to see the shrink. is that in the second or third book? O well whichever one, they both rule! All three of them and I can't wait until the fourth comes out, or has it already come out and I don't know about it... that's probably it. Oh well, I really love this book and I'm going to read it again because I haven't read it for like a year, and for that eleven year old who didn't get it, I think you should pay more attention to the story line; at first I didn't pay attention and I didn't like it but then I got hooked once I really focused on the story, All in all, it was a fabulous book and I can't wait to read it again. READ THE BOOK!

These books are incredible! The plot, writing style, and most of all the clashing personalities of the charecters make it an instnt classic. and also, despite popular belief, i think artemis and holly are made for eachother. although holly is older than artemis, she would be about 20 if she was a person, and he is fourteen. that's only 6 years apart and artemis would never be happy with someone his age because he is so smart. I AM MADLY IN LOVE WITH ARTEMIS!!! and the fact that i am exactly like holly might possibly be why i think holly and arty belong together...

First of all, I know I have written a letter to this site before but this time I'm actually writting to tell ALL of you that thed fourth book is NOT, and I repeat, NOT called The Opal Incedent OR The Artemis Fowl Files. Opal is a character from the book Artemis Fowl:The Artic Incident and I don't she would actually be an incident to Artemis. Second, the Artemis Fowl Files is actually about translations, interviews, secrets, etc. so it's not officially a story. And third, if anyone had searched the internet for pictures of the book they would immediately find out that it's really called ARTEMIS FOWL:THE SEVENTH DWARF. If you click on the picture it'll say that it's about Artemis and Mulch teaming up to try and find and steal a priceless diamond from dwarves. The cover is blue with a picture of a diamond in the middle and the title on top.... Well I know this is a lot to read but I just had to say somthing. And Eion hurry it up will you, I'm already losing about 50 hairs a day(literally)(must read my last letter to understand meaning).

The cover alone was entricing and pretty cool looking, but that didn't even prepare me for the book. I just finished reading it last night after having a nonstop session on the train ride home from a visit to a friend. Every character in that book was pretty unbelievable. In unbelievable, I mean how perfectly they developed, hint about further developments, and fit so perfectly against and with each other. The battles of Butler were amazing, Holly was incredibly cunning, and Artemis...there aren't enough words in the english (or fairy) language to do him justice. Awsome book, I just can't believe my library doesn't have the other books, D'ARVIT!!

And no it doesnt'ruin the second novel for the reader, it fits so nicely! well what more is there to say besides that i love these books and have read them over and over again! i recomend them and i can't wait for the fourth novel! :)

Buy it, read it, have your mom read it, steal it back whenever she's asleep, have your friend read it, and read it again. Repeat process, get fed up , and send them to the library on third round of this attempt. This book and the rest of the series are books that you can read over and over again, if you buy one, your money will not go wasted. I read the series nonstop in three school days, I didn't even get whole days to read them, Boy was I tired. Rererererereading The Arctic Incident as I live and breathe...I do right? I'll take it slower now. We don't get The Opal Incedent book until may '05. D n't forget to read the original Artemis Fowl, Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code, and Artemis Fowl and The Seventh Dwarf, which I hear is around, How come I haven't seen it?????? I LOVE A.F.!!!!!! (the charactor)

The Artemis Fowl books are wonderful! I LOVE Artemis. I have no idea why people think artemis and holly should be together. Holly is like 500 years older than him. I can't wait for the movie or the fourth book!

I mostly agree with the others. That fourth book and movie better come soon or I might go crazy and rip my own hair out! But I mostly agree with girls, he is such a ladies man. He's everything i want in a guy, he's evil, smart, dociel, ignorant, cute,(judging by the pictures on the web)clueless when it comes to normal things, and single(I know, I'm weird)!!!And I don't care what people say,Eion, DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT have Holly fall in love with Artemis. For heavens sakes, he has to look down to see her, she calls him Mud BOY,(not man but BOY) and she's over 305,900,290 years old!!!!!!! They do not belong together!!!! You hear me DO NOT!!! Holly oviously goes with Foaly and Artemis goes with me, either that or he has to get more, I mean he doesn't even know how to make a sandwich. Anyway, I give this and Eternity Code more thumbs ups' then I have thumbs. Keep them coming and fast or i might as well go wig shopping.

I absouloutley LOVED the Artemis Fowl books. When I got the first book, I read it in one day--thats right, one day--and NEVER put it down. I loved it, I always had to turn every page, nothing could interrupt me! I'm now done reading the first and the Artic Incident, and am begging my mom to get the Eternity Code from the library. I'm also very excited about the 4th book, if it's coming out, and the movie, which may be coming out this year. My favorite character is Artemis, though he softned up in the 2nd book. I liked how he acted nicer to Holly and such, but it would be nice if you could get him to have more smart comments, because those made him an interesting character and more funny. So far, I liked the 1st book the best. I'm going to get all the books for Christmas and I'm going to see the movie the day it comes out!^-^

I absolutely ADORE Artemis Fowl. There is not a single character here you can't LOVE in one way or another. A great series.

I absolutely fell in love with the character Artemis Fowl in the first novel. He was unpleasant, yet so intelligent but totally changed in the second novel. He became very adventurous, kinder to people and so faithful in his rescue for his father. All the characters in the book are fantastic and I absolutely adored all of them (especially Artemis Fowl the Second).

I think that this book is really better than the first one. Maybe because in this book Artemis isn't so cold, he's more human, friendlier.

I simply loved the books. They were interlectually stimulating and kept me interested. I couldnt stop readin it, the characters are all intreaging and interesting, as well as the storyline. I have re-erad this books many a time and will do so many more times! My favourite book is the eternity code, due to the fact that Holly and Fowl are begining to be friends. These booksare some of the best i have ever read!

I think Artemis Fowl is an amazing series! I can't wait for the 4th book! The characters are all so witty, along with the storyline. I really like Foaly and Butler. Foaly because of his proud but couldn't-care-less attitude, and Butler because, well, who couldn't love a seven-foot Eurasian bodyguard with martial arts AND artillery training! I sure hope someday they'll make a movie of the series, although the books would be better anyday! Favourite book; probably the third because it is straight-to-the-point, and also goes into more depth than the first two. Rock-on, fairy lovers!

I absoloutly love the Artemis Fowl series, I've read and reread them but they never get boring! I like the Eternity Code best because its alot more in depth and you get to see the nicer side of Artemis. In short I love the books and I can't wait for the fourth! semper aliquid novi, Ferox.

i really like the book, like everyone else, but i mean, come on, it seems like almost every girl who wrote something has a crush on artemis or something. i mean, please, he's a CRIMINAL, someone who makes their fortune by stealing from everyone else. as for the book, i liked it, but not as much as the eternity code. it had it's ups and downs, and you really got to know the characters and how they thought better. i didn't think it was as exciting as the eternity code, however.

My parents had a headache when I was reading the first Artemis Fowl book. "Chloe come down for dinner!' "Ok one second mom!" One second lasted a few minutes or so. Finally I would stumble down the stairs, never taking my eyes off the book and I would do everything one handed. They should have enjoyed the silence before the storm though. When I finished it it was a mad rush to the bookstore to buy the sequal, and as I walked out I had my face in my book. My school went on a field trip the next day and they got VERY annoyed because I wouldn't pay attention to any of my friends. Right now Holly was cooler then they were. Then finally I was done. They cheered, but then I pulled out the third book. The Arctic Incident was intriguing, unpredictable, well written (duh), and like all the Artemis Fowl books, slightly confusing. Even so you could figure it out pretty quickly, though sometimes I wanted to add three lies of "I see" to the list of Butler and Roots fibs. Even so this was a GREAT book! I loved the friendship that developed in it, such a turn from the first book. It showed Artemis's human side, hiding the criminal.

Hi! I absolutely adore Artemis - if I hadn't a boyfriend yet, I would hope that Artemis would come out of the books. And I think that Eoin Colfer is the BEST AUTHOR EVER! He has enough fantasy and is intelligent enough to create the smartest person ever - Artemis. But, who said that the fourth book is going to be called "The opal Incident". No way! The book will be called "The Artemis Fowl Files". I give you 100% that this is a right information. Unfortunately here in Germany Artemis Fowl isn't so popular as "Harry Poter". I also read Hary Potter, but I think that Artemis is more fascinating, in Harry Potter you always know what will happend, bevor you have read it....

I absolutely must give 10 out of 10 for Eoin Colfer! Artemis Fowl is perhaps the new Harry Potter! I admire Artemis, his intellect is amazing and he is very pragmatic. He is indeed a child prodigy and as I write this I am listening to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons! Artemis has inspired me to use my brain and I love his character in the book! I know that sounds weird, but this is one of the few books that has made an impact in my life so how's that?!

Interesting, very interesting. I like this book, kept me busy but Eoin left a BIG hole he is going to have to fill; turning Artemis Fowl into a good guy???? Are you crazy??? He says just one more adventure come on you can do better than that!

Well, Eoin Colfer is by far the best writer out in fantasy... Artemis reminds me of well me. So it was easy to picture Artemis. Only people that are like Artemis read the books and enjoy them any ways. Artic Incident is just as brillient as the last. It was great. I read all them now and am ready for anyother Eoin Colfer books coming.

Well.... I think Artemis and Holly are cute together,BUT!!!(why there alway a but?) A prodigy like Artemis Fowl should not have relationship too early, just think how much trouble you go through, like protect your love one, think about her all thie time, even maybe use her as a tool to get what you what even you going to reget over it, and ect... ONE huge reason is I am kind of jealous ^_^ I LOVE him. Okey, ummm...... i know i am weird please don't think me as a freak ok? He is just so cold and so cute... and soooooo smart!!! Who wouldn't like him?

I think that this book is fab,and I like the idea that the fairies 'magic' is more like their technology,(with a bit of magic too). My favourite character is Mulch Diggums.
