We first read this book as a group in my secondary school last summer. This is group is in the top 2 per cent of the school academically and we read it so that we could jedge it for 'The Hampshire Book Award'. Of course it won the award and i met the author, Joseph Delaney, and got several book signings. To those of you out there, in the UK, the first three books are already out; The Spook's Apprentice The Spook's Curse The Spook's Secret However, in other countries, I don't know. I have bought all three books, and when I met Joseph, he mentioned that he has signed a contract for at least six books. I would guess that he will write seven, as, if you look at the front of the books, they all have a seven on them, although it might possibly have to do with the 'seven times seven' part of the book. If you don't know what that means, then plese read book three. In book three, he mentions a place name that might ring a bell to some British people, and maybe even some outside of the country; Sunderland. It is a large city in the north of England just south of Newcastle for those of you who don't know. Joseph is in fact from Lancashire, which is the country that he mentions in his books. Lancashire is further west and south than Sunderland, but was the noly major port in the area. In th U.S. of A. the series is called 'The Last Apprentice' and the books are a follows; The Revenge of the Wtch The Curse of the Witch Book Three, I believe, is yet to be released.

I love witchcraft books, and I read many of them. One of the predominant reasons I liked this one was because it has a different view on witches from the norm of books I usually read. Most of the witchcraft books I read portray witches as just being humans with a few special abilities. This book portrayed them as being inhuman creatures. I agree with the former, but it was very interesting to gain some insight on the latter view.

(excuse my english because I'm french) A clever mix of fantastic, soft horror and adventure, Spook's serie is a must. My wife and I offered the two first books to my young 11 years old son and he was stunned. I read them in 2 weeks! I read them too and I think that Joseph Delaney is among the 10 leaders of the genre. I am a fan of fantastic/horror and I can say that without a doubt. G.

I simple can't see why people hate this book because it is really exciting. The first chapter didn't really grip me but as it was the only thing i had to read i carried on and now along with 'The Spook's Curse' and soon 'The Spook's Sercet' i can't put them down. I think they are better than Harry Potter and I am a big Harry Potter fan!!!! I love the books and I love them so much I have even set up a website about them to try and make my friends like them.

This book is an amazing story. I love the idea of you had to be the seventh son of the seventh son. The bit where the spook tests him really got the story going but it really scared me. Alice is one of the best characters as she is sneaky but kind. Mother malkin was a really scary character along with bony lizzy. To cut it short I strongly suggest you read the sequel.

This is one of the best books that I have ever read. I read it as part of the Warwickshire Book Awards representing my school and voted for it. I loved the way that you could never quite trust Alice. It was very gripping and the sequal, "The Spook's Curse" was even better! I am looking forward to another book in the series coming out.

It was a good read. Although it is fiction it seems factual especially on the part of the difference between ghasts and ghost.

I thought at the start it would be a boring book my mum read it and i started to read it and i couldnt put it down i thought it was an amazing book because it had a good begin starting with a boy on a farm and one day he cant live in the house much longer so his dad has to get him a job him being a seventh son of a seventh son makes him different than other people and it lands into all saughts of advetures binding bogarts and witches and even helping ghosts and ghasts facing beasts like the bane i thought this book is 10 out of 10.

I can't find anything wrong with this book at all. the tense moments in the book really makes it a fantastic book. my favourite part of the book is when the spook is telling tom all the bits about being an apprentice it fascinates me. i live in lancashire i found it intresting to hear about the witches on pendle hill. my overall rating is 10 out of 10 and i would recomend it to annyone. the book is perfect all the tension throughout the book makes it the best book i have ever read.

I absoloutly loved this book. It's well worth reading whatever age you are. I read this book because I thought the cover looked good. It turned out to be much better than I expected. It is impossible to guess what will happen next in the book, if you do guess, you're always wrong! I didn't find it that SCARY but it had me on edge almost all the time! Watch out J.K Rowling and Anthony Horowitz, a star has been born! READ IT NOW!

I only bought this book because the main character has the same name as me (all the way down to the middle initial), and while it was clearly not aimed at an older reader, I quite enjoyed it. Worth a look into if you're under 14.
Naeem, boy, age 15, from Bolton, United Kingdom, on 15th July 2005. Rating:
I loved this book, it was so spooky. Joseph Delaney really brings the characters to life through his vivid descriptions. Did anyone else notice that on the cover of the book the spook is actually holding his staff in his right had instead of left?
