I really liked this book. Karana seems to of had a hard life but it was very interesting. Want to read my summary I wrote for it at school? Okay, here it is, I sland of the Blue Dolphins is about a true story.Karana notices a ship coming to her island. Her dad is the captain/leader of the island and residents. When the ships boarded,Karana's father saw the ships and he said that they were the Aleuts.Karana's sister Ulape, left as a grown woman. The Aleuts made a deal with father that they could live on the island to kill otter as long as they paid for everyone killed.Soon after the Aleuts left. Father went with all men to get their earnings.Father died in the attack.Soon after Ramo,Karana's brother died from wild dogs.Karana finds resources to live her life.Soon she sees an Aleut girl and feels a peck of joy but still, she was an enemy.Soon after that Rontu,Karana's dog died. After, she saw a pup that looked and ran just like him. She caught him and named him Rontu-Alu wich ment "Son of Rontu."She met an otter and her young and they made friends. Then eather trembled seemed to get smaller! The rest is up to you to read! This story took place over 200 or 2000 B.C. ago! Karana has been buried on the shore and has now probably washed away. There is a special place for her in the U.S.

I think the book Island of the Blue Dolphins was the best book I had ever read since. I also think that it's a really sad story because Karana's mother and father die and then she is left with her brother in the island. Later her brother is killed by some wild dogs and she's alone and lonely in the island. Some times I put myself as Karana. While I was reading this book,it almost made cry.

Island of the Blue Dolphins is a good book for all ages whether your over 20 or under 10. I give this book a 10/10 because it makes me feel like I'm Karana and that I'm surviving on the island alone. Although this book has many sad parts, I would defintely reccomend to anyone who enjoys fantastic and adventourous stories. My favorite characters were Karana and Rontu because they met and became friends in such an interesting way.It was so sad when one of them, I'm not telling who in case you haven't read the book, passed away.Island of the Blue Dolphins is a fantastic, marvelous, and suspenseful book.
Tiffany, girl, age 11, from Mississauga, Canada, on 16th November 2005. Rating: 8/10
I think that this book was a very interesting book. Although this is interesting, I only gave it an eight out of ten rating for a good read because it is about a girl who is stranded on an island and she makes the best of it. One would have thought they would have gone insane, but NO! This girl lives and survives. It was an eight because people get mad, Karana doesn't, people get scared, Karana doesn't, people are afraid of some things, and Scott O'Dell makes it sound as if Karana wasn't afraid of anything! Scott O'Dell is a really good writer and I hope to be able to borrow Venus Among the Fishes by Elizabeth Hall and Scott O'Dell because I really want to know what happens to Karana later in her life; was she married, did she have kids, did she at least have a boyfriend, if she remembered the events that occurred on the island, etc. I also think that Island of the Blue Dolphins was an interesting book because the book leaves you hanging which makes you feel as if you HAVE to read Venus Among the Fishes to find out what happens next. I have a feeling that Venus Among the Fishes won't let us down. We had enough time to read Island of the Blue Dolphins! So now let's go out to get Venus Among the Fishes! I really want to know how Scott O'Dell writes, and how his wife writes. It would have been so cool if Island of the Blue dolphins, and Venus Among the Fishes were only two books out of a Trilogy! I'd wait and wait and wait just for the third book to come out. Too bad there's only two books! Oh well! Then I hope they'll make a movie out of the two books. I just can't believe that Karana actually lived on the island for 18 years!

Have you ever wanted to get away from it all and cast away on a deserted island? I have often dreamed of this, but after reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell I realized its not all fun and games. I tried to put myself in the place of 12 year old, Karana, who is stranded on a deserted island for 18 years. She is very smart yet cautious. Karana is an optimist who perseveres through all of the hard times. These characteristics are what kept her alive. Year after year she waits for a ship to pass by and pick her up. She survives by building shelters, making weapons, finding food and fighting wild dogs. This adventure story takes place on an island off the coast of California in the mid 1800's. The Island of the Blue Dolphins is large but not very lush. It has few trees which supply the wood she needs to build canoes and houses. She finds most of her food from the sea and lives off the land using roots and herbs. O"Dell's writing style is what hooks you into reading the book. Scott O'Dell uses Karana's voice to tell her story. In this passage Karana's dog is dying: "Slowly he walked to where I was standing and fell at my feet. I put my hand on his chest. I could feel his heart beating, but it only beat twice, very slowly, loud and hollow like the waves on the beach, and then no more." His words seem like a poem and they help me imagine how Karana would feel. I find it interesting that a male author could be so good at telling a story with a 12 year old girl's voice. To find out where Karana ends up read The Island of the Blue Doplphins. Then when you're done with that adventure go on and read Zia, by Scott O'Dell, which is the sequel to Island of the Blue Dolphins.

I think the english version is better because in the german book all the names are changed and I think in the english book the expressions of the feelins are much better than in German. If I should choose a mark i'd choose B+ (2+ in Germany)

I like this book becaue Scott O'Dell really gives a good description of Karana's trails and tribulations. I really love animals,so I was glad that there was animals in the story. I also like the author's note because it has some interesting facts in it ,like the Island of The Blue Dolphins is really the island of San Nicolas.

This is an amazing book that tugs at the heart strings of all who read it. I first read it with my english class but after that I have read it again and again. I never realised it was a true story until I came onto this website but the fact that it is just makes it even better. It is a very good story that explores a side of north america I never knew about. I strongly recomend this book to anyone who likes reading and to those who don't I suggest you change your mind just this once and read this book because it is excellent.

Island of the Blue Dolphins was a great book. When I read the first 2-3 pages, I thought it would be boring. But it turned out to be a book about a girl having no companion. Although there is no one to talk to, she befriends lots of creatures that help her learn that you dont need human contact to have a great life. It amazed me that she learned to do so many things without help of any kind.

i think the story is inspiring. It shows how strong a girl can get and how she survive through 18 years without a human companion, only animals. It shows how karana live in harmony with nature and also courageous enough to go against the cultural taboo that discourage women to make weapons and how she coped with loneliness.

It was a wery good book. The best one I have ever red, and I have red alot. I`m not so sure way I loved it so much, maybe because I can see myself as Karana, but anyway. I recommend Island of the Blue Dolphins highly. If you like a good book with some animals and with a fight to survive, then this is the right book for you. Enjoy the book :)

I thought that this book was very boring. After the girl is left alone on the island, she befriends one of the wild dogs, so she talks to him, but it bored me. I suppose that I was simply used to higher reading, and should have known that this book would bore me at my age, for one of my best friends read it in first grade, while here I am in seventh trying to read it for a school project. My suggestion is that you only read it if you are under age 9 or 10.

Every term my teacher reads out a book. When I first looked at the cover and read the title I thought it was a really boring book. Then she started reading it. I wasn't listning at first I was just mucking around with my friends, and then I started listening because me and my friends kept on getting in trouble. I soon got into the book. I thought the book was very good and abit sad.

it is a very well written book. Basicly I don^t read books but I had to read one for my report in the english lesson. I went to get a book from library and there I found Islands of the blue Dolphins. I was interested in reading it because it is not long in contrary to the rest of the books. So I decided to take it. But when I read it I had to change my attitude to books......
