I think this book is brilliant so far. Allthough i hav not finished it i am really enjoying it. I think it is a good book because it tells younger and older people about what life as an evacuee was like in the war and how you might have felt. I am reading it in school with my class and we are finding lots of activities to do with it like making an argument between carry and nick and reflecting their personalities through the way they speak. IT IS A FAB BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ENJOYED THIS BOOK IT WAS A VERY HEARTWARMING STORY.I LIKED THE BOOK AND DID NOT WANT TO STOP READING IT.I REALLY FEEL SORRY FOR THEM GOING TO LIVE WITH MR EVANS AND LEAVING THEIR MOTHER.I DO FEEL GLAD WHEN THEY MEET HEPZIBAH,MR JHONNY,ALBERT AND MRS GOTOBED.I WAS NOT SUPRISED TAHT THE CHILDREN DID NOT WANT TO GO TO THIER MOTHER AS THEY WERE TREATED SO WELL BY THIER FREINDS.WHEN CARRIE THREW THE SKULL I FELT SHOCKED BECUASE OF THE CURSE.I DO FEEL FOR MR EVANS BECAUSE HE WASN'T A BAD PERSON JUST STRICT WAYS OF LIFE TO PROTECT PEOPLE AROUND HIM.WHEN I READ THAT DRUIDS BOTTOM IS BURNING I FELT SURPRISED.AS MOST BOOKS THIS TURNS OUT WELL AND AS EXEPECTED OF NINA BAWDEN .I FELT DELIGHTED TO KNOW THAT HEPZIBAH,MISTER JHONNY AND ALBERT WERE SAFE AND ALIVE BUT MR EVANS WAS NOT.HOWEVER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD IF THEY CONTINUED THE STORY AND EXPLAINED ABOUT CARRIE'S REACTION OF HEPZIBAH AND MISTER JHONNY BEING ALIVE.

Like Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, i first read Carrie's War at school, at first i found it not very satisfying, but at about Chapter 5, i was fully intrigued in the book. It has a stylish plot to it, but in some parts it had me confused on what time era it was set in, was Carrie talking about the event to her children? Or was it actually happening, and then at the end of the book, Carrie had grew up and then told her children about it? For this i have to give this book a harsh 9/10. It is still well worth reading though.

This is an excellent book which shares many different emotions. It is more for older children though. It is quite sad I thought, But very enjoyable at the same time. I read this book in 20 minutes straight because it was so good and I just kept wanting to read more. It is a brilliant buy and even if it is quite expensive, it is worth it. When you read this you get a really good experience. Almosta first-hand experience it makes you have at some points. I won't say anything about the book because I don't want to ruin it or anything. So once you have read this paragraph, beg someone to drive you, or quickly go down yourself to a local library or book shop and get a copy. If you don't you will regret it. It is definitely one of my top ten favourite books and once you read it, I am sure it will be one of yours too!

I think that Carrie's War is an interesting read, however it was also a very easy read for my liking. Personally I prefer science fiction, and read more science fiction than fiction, so i don't have much experience with novels, but I would say that this book was quite enjoyable.I would recomend this book to girls and boys aged 6 to 10, who find novels about war time exhilarating, exciting and interesting. PS. I was quite disapointed to realize there was nothing about the weapons and machines use in the Second World War as i would have found that interesting, as we are about to do that in history at school.

I think this book is indredibly well written as it doesn't lose its appeal over the years. It can be read by older readers or young children, but would be enjoyed by both age groups. I don't really have a favourite character, but if I had to choose one, I would probably choose Mr Evans because his character is so deep. When we first meet him in the book, he appears to be horrible and angry all the time and always bullies Aunty Lou. But when we aren't expecting it, his nicer side is revealed and we can sympathise with him and see that what he has sufferes in the past has helped to contribute to his present character and outlook on life. My favourite book by Nina Bawden!

I think the book 'carrie's war' is a good book. It is hard to imagine things such as being evacuated during the war. The characters (e.g carrie) are described well and you can picture them in your head. Also the description for auntie lou (miss evans) was good. I could see her as a little red squirrel as it was described in the book. Some of my favourite parts were where mr johnny, hepzibah and albert sandwich are at the house and carrie and nick are invited for tea before christmas eve. The friendship between carrie and albert is very strong. If carrie were a plant, she would be a rose because carrie seems so sweet and inocent and, like a rose, she could easily be described in that way.If she were a place she would be a kitchen because she seems like a very warm and homely person. Some words that could describe mr evans are manipulative, argumantative, ignorant, vicious and paranoyed. |These words describe him because whenever somebody does something he wouldn't do or he doesn't agree with, he always fights to get his own way. The book was quite good but the ending let it down. It had no action and no excitement. If i had to describe the book in 10 words, it would be : A good beginning, rubbish ending and good decription of characters.

I am reading this book for my topic at school and it is very interesting because it gives you a picture of how children used to live in ww2. It gives you an insight on how children copped with living with strangers and coping with out their parents. It must of been very hard for the children not knowing if their parents would survive the war. So if you see this in the shops i would advise you to pick it up cause it is a really good book

I agree that it isn't extremely exciting. Though it does have a good way of telling us about the evacuation of children during the second world. As well as being quite exciting. I don't agree with the use of Mr.johnny to attract people. The discription is good because the characters that you don't see on the front cover you can still picture it in your mind. Nina picked a good plot but could have maybe made it more interesting during the start and end. For instance telling us what happened to the deed. Also the ending was very abrupt. It would be suitable for younger years and to help improve your intelligaence.
Nikki, girl, age 14, from Winnipeg, Canada, on 22nd February 2005. Rating: 6/10
This but from my point of view was borrrrrrrring, I don't know if it was because of my age because little kids who are 10&12 seem to like it, the fact that nothing really happens but a guy who speaks some weird language comes up to much and the fact that Nick understands him is to me just abit far off, the most if you can call it exciting part was going to the bottom of the grove.... WOW something saying "gobble gobble" how exciting, i wish, dont get me wrong the discriptoin was okay, not the best but whatever, i myself would not reccomend it to people my age.

This has been one of the most exciting, thrilling books i have ever picked up and read, i have read it twice now because i think its so brill and i'm going to read it a third time when i go on holiday because it makes me think of England when i'm away in a different country because of the war and the evacuation when it happened in England. I do hope that i can find a simular book to Carrie's war but this time maybe set in a different country so i can see the views of everyone round the world, not just in England. I really didn't like Mr Evans; he's a giant bully. I felt quite sorry for Auntie Lou because she was one of the victums of Mr Evans. I truly enjoyed this book, everyone should see how amazing it is!!!

I think the Carries War is an excellent book to read for pleasure, to read in your spare time or, if you have a project on the Second world war, it can be very useful due to the book being set in the time of the world war. Therefore the book gives you alot of information about the evacuees and the war in general. I thoughrally enjoyed reading the book, and I would reccommened it highly to others

I loved this book, at times it made me feel quite emotional! All those poor children going away from their parents I'd hate it. I think Nina Bawden is a FANTASTIC author and should write lots more books just like Carrie's War. You should read this bok because: a. If you like stuff about war and evacuee's then you will love it. b. It's not really very scary so you can read it before bed and under your covers at night! c. IT WAS QUITE A GOOD READ, AND I THOUGHT THE START WAS A BIT BORING. IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO GET INTO IT. IT HAD AN UNPREDICTED STORYLINE AND NOT TOO MANY CHARACTERS. I WOULD RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE FROM 9- 14.

At first I didnt like the book but when I understood it, I really enjoy it. I like the way un what Nina Bawden explains the feelings of this children and make as feel that what its happening in the book its happening to teh reader. I dont think that Mr. Evans is cruel. He is only a loneliness, sctrict and religious man that likes things to go how he wants to. All the words the writer wrote in this book, has a meaning. All its at the end relacionate it and join up like a puzzle. The book was just GREAT!!!

I think that Carries war is a fabulous book to do an english assignment on. It really captures the feel of what Carrie and Nick are feeling towards the cranky Mr Evans. I think this a fun and enjoyable read for everybody!

I thought this book was really good as the description was great. My favourite characters were Auntie Lou and Carrie.I think Nina Bawden is a really good writer and I would like to read more books that she has written. At the end I was really disapointed at the end as I thought that the bad thing would be much worse than what it really was.Above that though I really liked this book!!!

I think it's an okay book. We have to read it in English, and everybody says it's boring. I think it's okay, but at the beggining it iis boring so I have to agree with my class mates. The only thing that cheers me up is that my class teacher makes it all funny! Does anybody know what happens to The Skull? I haven't read that far....

I loved this book so much! It made me feel as if I was there. i liked the description of the characters, but I hate Mr.Evans...he's a hypocrite- even though he is not real, the author really shows that in the book and I think it is a great book. So, all you readers out there have got to read it - it makes you want to read on and on.... I read it in school- we are studying about it and it's just great. Thanks a lot Alexandria

I love carries war because it makes you think about how children in the 2nd world war felt when they were evacuated and had to leave their homes and families.I think that more children should read it to find out just how it felt.

I think mr Evans is really horrible to aunty lou because he is always shouting at her. he is really mean to the two children aswell so i think he shouldbe called a bullie. When Carrie and nick got evacuated i felt sorry for them because they wont see there mum or dad for a while.

I feel sorry for aunty lou because mr evans always bullies her and he only ever thinks about himself and never anyone else. I think this book is very good because it is telling people what it was like in the war time and it makes you wonder what it would be like if you were in carries shoes.
